Inaugural International Indigenous Museum Symposium to be held at the National Ainu Museum

The National Ainu Museum will host the “International Indigenous Museum Symposium” over two days, February 7 (Sat) and February 8 (Sun), 2026. We are honored to welcome directors from indigenous museums from the places that are currently called the United States, Australia, Finland, and Japan. This symposium will explore the evolving role of museums by sharing case studies from indigenous museums around the world.

  • Simultaneous interpretation in Japanese and English will be provided on both days.
  • Information regarding symposium guests, detailed content, and registration will be released in January 2026.
  • There will be no online streaming. Records are scheduled for release in 2027.
  • Programs are subject to change.
