- The expression kere yan, nukar yan, nu yan means “please touch, please look, please listen” in the Ainu language.
About the Exhibition
The National Ainu Museum holds seasonal exhibitions, intended as experiences that everyone can enjoy and that can enhance visitors’ understanding of the permanent exhibition. UPOPOY is committed to continuing to cherish and pass on Ainu culture. This exhibition introduces the activities of UPOPOY and gives visitors the chance to touch everyday tools and other objects displayed in the permanent exhibition. By touching the objects, visitors can notice many new things.
Explanations in braille and sign language will also be provided.

Exhibition Contents
Chapter 1: Kere – Touch
This section introduces Ainu clothing and ritual practices.

Chapter 2: Itak – Speak
This section introduces the pronunciation and writing system of the Ainu language.

Chapter 3: Nu – Listen
This chapter introduces songs, food, and the exchange of people and objects.
